1. Does your solution archive internal (also referred to as peer-to-peer) email as well as the email received at the gateway?
Yes we have a number of methodologies that enable you to archive all mail sent and received by the company mail server. The methodology used depends on your mail server and the implementation.
2. Do I need a mail server to use your solution?
Yes. We typically work with the mail server to archive both internal and external email.
If you do not have a mail server, your options are to either contact your mail host to see if they offer an archiving solution, or setup an archive mail box to which the individuals in the business must send a CC or BCC copy of emails. Our solution can then POP the emails down to your server and archive them. Whilst this is not a compliance solution it is a very effective way to archive selectively in a small organization.
3. Does your solution support my mail server?
Yes. Our solution is vendor independent. This is largely due to the fact that we deal with SMTP email, which is what is transferred over the Internet.
To ensure longevity, our focus has been to develop a solution that is not dependent on any one vendor, so that in 5 years time when you need to find email, you can.
The continued development of open source mail servers is presenting the market with alternatives and it is highly likely that the mail solution you use today will not be the same in 5 years time. We file the original format SMTP email, which is the industry standard email format for the Internet. For the internal mail, which is sent and stored in the vendor’s email format, we use some of the free utilities available with the Microsoft operating system to convert this to SMTP email before filing.
4. Does your solution integrate with my mail filter?
Yes. In fact, most of the mail filters out there will actually allow us to enhance your use of our solution. We can extend the rules and policies set at the mail filter level into the archive and allow you to find email parsed with certain policies.
